SMU recognised nine undergraduate students for their exceptional commitment to community service with the donor-sponsored SMU Community Service Student Achievement Awards 2024.

SMU's School of Computing and Information Systems hosted its first Industry Day, gathering 150 industry leaders and academics to explore AI, governance, and future talent needs.

SMU Hall buzzed with anticipation as faculty, staff, students and guests gathered to hear Professor Lily Kong delivered her sixth SMU President’s State of the University Address. Professor Kong took a broad view, reflecting on SMU’s progress over the last five years since the launch of the SMU2025 strategic plan in 2020. She shared milestones in the University’s transformative education, cutting-edge research, and commitment to being an engaged city university.

SMU hosted the groundbreaking GRASFI 2024 conference, uniting global experts to drive innovation in sustainable finance, with keynote insights from Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat.

The SMU Arts Fest 2024 embraced the theme of “PLAY”, celebrating the joy, spontaneity and boundless possibilities that playfulness can bring to both art and life. The two-week festival saw nearly 20,000 attendees across five events – a significant increase from 2023’s 13,726-strong crowd. It also marked SMU’s second year of collaboration with the Singapore Night Festival, with SMU as its youth hub.

SMU proudly took home the prestigious Excellence Award at the People's Association Community Spirit Awards recognising its unwavering commitment to building a more caring and inclusive Singapore.

As part of the University's commitment to deepening Singapore’s engagement with Southeast Asia, SMU proudly organised the Global Ready Talent (GRT) Programme's SEA appreciation event in Jakarta. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Enterprise Singapore, equips students with invaluable insights into the region’s business, cultural, and societal landscapes. Discover how SMU is fostering the next generation of talent ready to thrive in Southeast Asia.

Outside of his work, SMU Senior Associate Director at Alumni Giving, SMU Office of Advancement, Sam Wu is really passionate about food. He posts about it on Instagram and appears regularly on a weekly radio show that covers different restaurants, cafes and eateries in an ongoing quest for the most enjoyable food around.

SMU took a prominent role in the Women’s Forum Singapore 2024, the leading international platform for advancing women’s leadership and fostering positive societal change. Organised in partnership with SMU, the Forum gathered diverse voices on 19 and 20 June 2024 to explore critical issues and drive meaningful impact.

The SMU-DBS Foundation Symposium on Essential Household Needs in Singapore focused on sharing new findings on the Singaporean consensus of what constitutes essential needs, as experienced by groups in society that may be deprived of such essentials and on ways to enhance access for these groups.
