SMU Overseas Community Service Project (OCSP) Project Gazaab aims to empower youths in Nepal by imparting business knowledge and skills to them, enabling them to realise their potential as entrepreneurs. For the 12th iteration of the project, SMU volunteers from Project Gazaab Nepal XII made the trek to Nepal’s remote mountain villages to teach local students entrepreneurial skills.

Odyssey 2024: Charting the Voyage

SMU Odyssey – an annual student-led mentoring platform for professionals and students to forge connections – this year, embraced the theme Charting the Voyage and drew together close to 800 participants, including 220 alumni and 38 C-suite speakers across various industries.

Open House 2024 saw the largest turnout in SMU’s history, with more than 20,000 visitors to the SMU campus over two days. Visitors were offered 118 information sessions, in-depth talks, and sample classes so they could get an idea of how their SMU journey could be.

Team Cognitare – SMU’s business case club – won the title of Global Champions at the prestigious Champions Trophy Case Competition organised by the University of Auckland in New Zealand, which exclusively invites winners of other high-profile international case competitions. This year saw Team Cognitare pitted against 11 other teams from around the world.

Over 400 athletes from Singapore competed in the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou in China. Running from 23 September to 8 October 2023, it featured Singapore’s largest delegation yet – 160 athletes more than represented our country at the 2018 Asian Games five years ago.

The opening of SMU’s 2023 Academic Year was marked with an exciting freshmen orientation, a mega Co-curricular Activities (CCA) Fair and a special opening celebration dinner. The Opening welcomed the 24th cohort of about 2,500 freshmen, who began their first Academic Year at SMU on Monday 14 August 2023.

Graduation is a celebration of our students’ hard work and achievements – an important period of their lives draws to a close as they stand on the cusp of the next phase of their journey through life. This is why SMU calls this a “commencement”, to signpost it as the beginning of a new journey ahead. Over five days in late July, the 3,737-strong Class of 2023 celebrated the successful completion of their education journey at SMU.

As the Chair of the Singapore University Sports Council (SUSC), SMU liaised international sports organisations and took charge of a whole slew of logistical and administrative matters.
