Innovation in Information Systems Pedagogy at SMU

Since joining SIngapore Management University's (SMU) School of Information Systems (SIS) in 2005, Professor Venky Shankararaman, who is also the School's Associate Dean for Education, has been experimenting with various approaches to develop both the content and methodologies for effective delivery of courses focused on enterprise technology.  In recognition of his outstanding efforts, Professor Venky won the SMU Distinguished Teacher Award in 2010, and the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Information Systems Education by the Association for Information Systems in 2014.

As a programme coordinator, Professor Venky has been leading the curriculum design and renewal effort of the Bachelor of Science (Information Systems Management) programme at SMU.  He has also been researching and publishing papers in the area of developing innovative and effective teaching methodologies.  One of his papers won the Best Paper Award at the 2013 IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference in Germany.

Professor Venky has also contributed significantly to Information Systems education in Singapore and internationally.  In 2014, he was awarded the SAP Outstanding Academic Award for Southeast Asia, the award was presented by SAP to recognise his contributions to enterprise systems education.
